Don’t look at a bag on its own, always observe the whole outfit. What colours prevail in your wardrobe? If you are like me and mostly wear neutral colours (black,white,beige,brown) I would recommend getting a bag of colour so it stands out. If orange or blue is too much I recommend dark red. Wearing black bag with black outfit can blend the outfit rather than make it stand out. However if you’re a person that wears a lot of colours, brown or black bag might just be what you need to balance the whole look. So take a look at your wardrobe and try to decide on colour of your perfect bag.

Size of the bag

It all varies on what you will be using it for. Tote bag is perfect for work. It looks classy and sophisticated but with lots of space for your books, laptop or anything you might need in a day.

Choosing the colour

I personally match my going out bag with the colour of my heels. Most of my heels are black so I have a black leather bag, it gives me options to wear any colour dress while my bag and heels stay matching. I can combine over 100 different outfits with one pair of heels and one bag. If you try it I can promise you it will be a lifesaver for last minute plans.

Size of the bag

Size for me is very simple, small black leather bag that fits only essentials like my phone, card holder, keys and of course lipgloss. I don’t need a lot of space and I don’t want to bring a lot of stuff with out with me. My preference is a shoulder bag so I can hold it firmly but cross body bag is also an option for those who prefer to have their hands free.

Prime quality

When going out you always want to ensure the leather strap is secure and it won’t fall apart especially if you’re clumsy like me. Quality stitching of the leather is extremely important so your clean look doesn’t get ruined by flying threads that make your bag look cheap.

Make it unique

Best thing I did with my going out bag is I purchased an air tag holder from Atelier Madre that has a key ring attached to it. It is made entirely out of leather and I customised it to match the colour of my bag. I attached it to my zipper so if I ever loose it or even worse it gets stolen I can track it from my iPhone. It is a safety feature I never thought I needed.
